I've noticed that a lot of the bands on this site al use myspace.com to post their music and get info out about their band. Have you guys ever considered getting a real website? I feel like having your own site would make it easier to put up everything you want on the site and then you could make it custom to fit your band. Is there a particular reason I'm overlooking that people use myspace. Any ideas anyone?

myspace is rated as one of the top ten websites on the net at www.alexa.com If your not familiar with alexa they are the people that rank websites by traffic etc... on the net. Your music has a better chance of getting heard at myspace and your using their bandwidth. How can that be wrong. alexa website rankings - top 500 www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500

actually i personally think that, having a myspace is a great thing to GET your band known, for reasons dog8mybag explained, but having an official website makes you look professional, and allot of bands leave that part out, it's a good career move in the long run to have both i think.

In my opinion there are pros and cons to both. Myspace is great for announcing digital releases and tours, and for bands in the early stages of their career to pick up the odd gig at a decent venue where other bands have pulled out at short notice. As a marketing tool for bands it is very useful, we advise all of the artists that we represent to create a myspace and spend a lot of time building up their friends network as this really does pay dividends in the long run. The downside of mysapce now, from an a&r perspective, is that there are too many bands and the good ones are too hard to find amongst the rest which have no music on them or the band have split up. Myspace could be improved greatly by weeding out dormant profiles.
Bandzoogle is good for bands wanting a cheap website that does the job and looks professional. If a band wants to be taken seriously, it is essential that they have the basic marketing tools in place such as their own website and pr pack.
